Wow, speaking about organizing against the government when they torch the arts:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/british-columbia/bc-backs-down-from-arts-cuts/article1273727/

The BC budget cut funding for culture by 90%! This is totally unprecedented and certainly won’t be the last we hear of it.

“Tuesday’s budget projected staggering cuts down from $19.5-million in 2008-09 to $2.25-million in 2010-11, and dropping to $2.2-million in 2011-12.”

Most sectors were asked to take a 7% cut – Culture 90%. It’s like the AGO all over again, but on a massive Olympian scale. Lots of cash and resources to make things look wonderful and cultured for the cameras, ribbon cutting and the spotlight. We can all eat Zoodles for breakfast lunch and dinner and put on plays in the alley behind the theatre when they’re gone.

We’re a culture with a very short memory. Politicians count on it.
