(Besides, joking border inspectors are few and far between.) That either cleared it up for him or he decided to drop it, figuring it wasn’t anything that posed a threat to homeland security.

I guess if he’d known anything about theatre, he would’ve asked what the play was before deciding it was safe.

I was just up to Toronto on Saturday to see a play, and when crossing the border back into the U.S., the inspector asked why we had been to Toronto.

“For theatre,” we answered.

“What’s that?” he asked.

Incredulous, we replied, “a play…”
