Here’s a link to the English translation of Wajdi Mouawad’s much discussed Open Letter to Prime Minister Harper.

Anon. Would you be interested in writing a short something about Monette?

You can post it in the comments and I’ll make it into a post.

I would be in your debt.

I hope this isn’t tacky. I just get the feeling that you could probably give us something special to remember him by, even if it’s just a quick, anonymous anecdote. It doesn’t have to sum it all up or anything.

If this is too strange a suggestion or you didn’t know him, please think no more of it. Maybe this is too strange. I don’t know. Help me out.

I never had the privilege of working with Mr Monette, so I can’t say a lot about him. But …

As an artist, and as an audience member, I could not help but acknowledge his love of the theatre and his flair for showmanship. At the same time, however, part of me despaired for the direction in which he took the Stratford Festival.

Some people are quoting “Hamlet” today ie. “flights of angels sing thee to thy rest” etc … I certainly wish peace upon his soul, but would lean more towards another Hamlet quote: “He was a man; take him for all in all”. I suspect we shall look upon his like again.
