Canadian Blog Award nominees announced

The Canadian Blog Awards have announced their initial nominees for 2008.  In the Best Cultural/Entertainment Blog category nominees include Resettle THIS!, Dead Things ON Sticks and Department of Culture. There are only two days left to cast your vote.

Here’s how the winner will be determined:

“Voting
Two rounds of voting will take place with each round lasting 7 days. The first round of voting will include all nominees. The second round of voting will narrow the list of nominees in each category down to the top 5 from the first round of voting.
Each person gets one vote for their favourite blog, in each category. Unlike pre-2007, you do not get one vote per day, you just get one per round.”

Congratulations to all the nominees!

Congratulations to all the nominees particularly The D.O.C and all its hard work in the recent election campaign! There was unfortunately a great oversight here. Canada’s best Theatre Blog!

    Theatre is Territory!

  2. Michael Wheeler says:

Thanks anon, obviously I hope the DoC website does well.

I didn’t see any theatre blogs amongst the nominees… We should make sure that doesn’t happen next year. There are a lot of great Canadian Theatre Blogs!

Condolences, Praxis, on being shut out. Ignore MKP, debate “content”, and maybe you’ll be nominated next year.

PS. Anon-1 above is NOT ME. There is only one true Anon.

  4. Anonymous says:

Both Anons above are totally lying. I’m the REAL Anon and if they don’t stop using my name I’m moving to the U.K.

  5. Anonymous says:

You are welcome here, other-anon. Just as long as you don’t (god forbid!) discuss “theatre content”. Apparently, that’s the new rule.

  6. Michael Wheeler says:

Dudes (Dudettes?) this is too funny. Can we make a play about who is the real anonymous? It will be like Boxhead, I will direct, but I will never know your true identities….

  7. Anonymous says:

We’ll have to have a test to see who is the “true” anonymous …

We’ll take turns discussing “theatre content,” and the first one to make MKP flip out and scold us is the real anon.

  8. Michael Wheeler says:

I think the true anon understands that conflict is the essence of drama and would like some entertainment.

  9. Anonymous says:

Umm … yup! How many great “dramas” do YOU know involving people who respectfully listen to one another without judging (uugh!) as has been so horrendously suggested?

Great culture is not possible without great feuds.

Live by this axiom, Praxis, and you will be nominated next year.

  10. Anonymous says:

The comment above is not the real Anon, but the Anon comment two above is. Although I agree (gasp) with the comment the fake Anon directly above left. We shouldn’t listen to each other just TYPE LOUDER!

    “Theatre content” is dead!
    Long live THEATRE CONTENT!

    Discuss…

    NOW WE’RE TALKING, ANON-2!

IF ONLY MORE CANADIAN THEATRE WAS AS DYNAMIC AS THIS BLOG!

PS. I will “listen” to anyone who is interesting.

  12. MK Piatkowski says:

I see I’ve become Anon’s new target of whine.

I personally believe that the idea that one has to be an asshole to produce great art is complete bullshit. I also believe that one can be in conflict and yet still be respectful of the other’s opinion. I also believe that this world wouldn’t be so fucked up if we actually listened to each other and tried to understand the other viewpoint before shutting them down.

On topic, I too hope we see some theatre blogs make the list next year. This blog, The Next Stage and Nsaa are all fantastic reads.

Thanks, MK. I have read your post very carefully, and seriously thought about it. Here are a few of my thoughtful thoughts:

    1) I am not an asshole. I am a blunt speaker and a barrel of laughs. Deal with it.

    2) I agree, it’s not necessary to be an asshole to produce great art– but I don’t think that point needs emphasizing in a community of jellyfish like Toronto.

    3) I’ll be happy to read and consider any comment you care to write, but ALL reflexive, conventional defenses of “The Drawer Boy” will be met with 100% pure snark.

    4) I DO believe that all opinions deserve to be heard; but NOT ALL opinions are equal. They just aren’t.

    5) I have glanced at your little blog, and it is pretty good. Keep typing, and maybe you’ll get a nomination too!

    6) Happy Holidays, etc.
