The Trial of Omar Khadr

Sean Dixon is the author of the play/novel ‘The Girls Who Saw Everything‘ which was just produced (play) by Ryerson Theatre & longlisted (novel) for CBC’s 2011 CanadaReads. He’s currently writing a show around the banjo for Crow’s Theatre & has a new novel coming out with Coach House Press in the spring.

Thanks for the sneak peak Sean. This is a great example of a simple way to use social media to get people interested in a show way before it is open or the creators even know what it is: This song has planted the idea that Sean and Crow’s are doing a show around the banjo and it makes me more likely to go see it when it opens because I already liked one of the songs.

I was also happy to continue to bring attention to the plight of Omar Khadr, child soldier. There was a point in the early development of Jesus Chrysler, before it had a playwright and went by different names, when we were heavily embroiled in his story, but the show has moved away from talking about him literally now. You can’t negotiate with art. Doesn’t mean we have to stop talking about him here though.

This article on Omar’s situation, published recently in the National Post, probably sums it up best.
